Thomas Jay Herndon was born October 20, 1951. The first born of Royce Garland and Lois C. Herndon. He became whole again on Friday, April 1, 2022 at the age of 70.
Tom was born and raised in Oklahoma City. He attended Harding High School, but graduated from Putnam City High School in 1969. Tom was a geological draftsman, working in the family business, Herndon Map Service, alongside his two sisters. In 1991, he married the love of his life, Gina. Together, they built a family and life that they were proud of. Their home became #CampMimiPopPop, hosting events and grandkids whom he adored. He was very athletic. He was a runner, a cyclist and eventually added swimming to compete in marathons and triathlons. He loved coaching his kids all through little league and enjoyed attending his grandkid's sporting events. He was a skilled carpenter and could fix anything and everything, earning the nickname "Tom the Toolman". He loved cars. He drove his beloved Ford Lightning and even built his own Factory Five Shelby Cobra. On weekends you could find him scouting a good garage sale for tools and antiques. He loved his family and saw the good in everyone.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents.
Tom is survived by his wife and soulmate Gina; his daughter Emily Buckingham and her husband Dylan Buckingham and their three sons Garrett, Miles and Hunter Buckingham; his son, Jason Herndon; his daughter, Julye Eaton and her husband David Eaton and their son Joey Eaton; his kindred spirit nephew, Dylan Dail and his wife Christina and their daughter Alexandra; his twin sisters, Marilyn Karper and her husband Calvin and Teresa Griffin and her husband Tim; father and mother-in-law, Barbara and Bill Gideon and the entire Gideon clan.
Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, April 7th at Resurrection Cemetery.
