Thomas "Tom" Glenn Murphy was born October 28, 1935, in Red Wing, Minnesota as the son
of Walter Henry and Ethel (Carlsson) Murphy. He completed this life on Friday, November 10,
2023, in Oklahoma City at the age of 88.
Tom was raised in Minnesota where he attended Catholic schools and graduated from Mankato
High School. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1953 serving until 1956 when he was honorably
discharged as an Aviation Machinists Mate Petty Officer 3 rd . While in the military he served
primarily on the U.S.S. Ticonderoga as an aircraft mechanic. He also received a National
Defense Service Medal. After being discharged, he attended Mankato State University.
Tom married Marilyn Murphy in 1959 and together, they raised their three sons – Rick, Bill,
and Mike. They divorced in 1975.
Tom married again when he met Evangeline (Van) Pane. They married on October 12, 1979, in
Lexington, Nebraska. He and Van moved to Arizona and lived there for 35 years until she died
on November 18, 2019. Tom moved back to Oklahoma in 2020 to be near his sons,
grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Tom worked in the insurance industry, starting as a claims adjustor for GAB from 1960 to
1965. He then moved to St. Paul Insurance and was there until 1986, when he retired early from
that company. After moving to Phoenix, he worked another ten years as a claim litigation
investigator for the Prudential Insurance Company.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Van, his brother William, his sisters Maxine
Boswell and Kay Campbell, and his stepson Sam Pane.
Tom is survived by his sons: Rick Murphy and his wife Kristi, Bill Murphy and his wife Laura,
and Mike Murphy and his wife Suzy; his sister, Pat Anderson and her husband Lloyd; his four
stepchildren; Toni Flynn and her husband Tim, Bob Pane and his wife Teri, Ralph Pane and his
wife Michele, and Rick Pane and his wife Pam; and many grandchildren and great
grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2pm Sunday, November 19 th in Oklahoma City at Cherokee Hills
Christian Church and on Saturday, December 9 th in Omaha, Nebraska.
