Gonzales
February 22, 1943 – December 28, 2023
Twila Maye (Barton) Gonzales was born February 22, 1943 in Shawnee,
Oklahoma the daughter of Edgar Warren and Flossie May (Gentry) Barton. She
completed this life at her home on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at the age of
80.
Twila's life was greatly impacted by a tragedy early in life. When she was five
months old, her father was killed in action in World War II. This formed a
strong bond with her mother as they faced the years ahead. She was raised in
Oklahoma City and is a 1960 graduate of Harding High.
Twila was a real estate appraiser having retired from the Department of
Housing and Urban Development. After retirement Twila entered into acting,
appearing at the Jewell Box Theater, The Little Freede Theater and the Will
Rogers Center. Twila also appeared in commercials for many vendors
throughout Oklahoma. She thoroughly enjoyed being on stage and in front of
the camera.
Twila married Louis Raul Gonzales on May 24, 1980. They made their home in
Oklahoma City where they were members of St. Patrick Catholic Church and
later St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
Twila was preceded in death by her parents; and her step-son, Carlos Reyes
Gonzales.
Twila is survived by her husband, Louis, of 43 years; her daughter, Amy Darnell
of Oklahoma City; her son, Scott Darnell (Rebecca) of Houston, TX; her
brother, Robert Barton (Sharon) of Shawnee; her sister, Shirley Haley of St.
Petersburg, FL; her granddaughter, Holly Ferguson (Kyle) of Plainfield, IL; and
her great grandson, Bennett Ferguson.
An evening prayer vigil will be 7:00 PM Thursday in the Vondel Smith
Mortuary North Chapel, 13125 N. MacArthur Blvd. Mass of Christian Burial will
be 10:00 AM Friday in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Committal
prayers and interment will be 2:30 PM in the Tecumseh Cemetery
