Obituary

Val Ammer joined his heavenly Father on August 22, 2022. Val was a man who was not only tall in stature but humble in heart. He always had a smile or a big laugh and the tightest hug for all that he loved.

He was born on November 17, 1946 to Floyd and Elva Deavenport Ammer. His parents passed away when Val was very young. His aunt, Celestia Kellogg, raised his to be a man. Val graduated from Duncan High School in 1965 and attended Texas A&M University until he decided to join the Air Force in December of 1966. He met Phyllis Ammer while she was on a date with another guy in the Sonic parking lot. They married on June 9, 1967 in Illinois. After his military career, he graduated from Oklahoma State University, Institute of Technology in 1974. He began a long career with OG&E where he retired in 2006. He didn't stay retired for long and went back to work for Re-Con company until he was 74.

At his core, he was a family man and a man of God. He had two beautiful daughters, Michele and Allison along with his grandchildren, Austin and Kamryn. He was a member of the Southwest Baptist Church and sang in the choir and after hearing his beautiful voice was as Men's quartet.

Val was truly a "jack of all trades." He could build or grow anything. He was often found in his shop woodworking, refinishing or repairing one of Phyllis latest antique store "treasures." Val enjoyed swinging the sticks at the golf course and coaching Allison in softball for many years.

Later in life, he rediscovered his love of travel. He, his wife and his band of travel buddies adventured to Italy, Greece, France, Turkey, Ireland, New Zealand, many U.S. states and more cruises than you can count.

Val would want to be remembered as a child of God and a loving husband and father. He always followed the greatest commandments: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and love your neighbor as yourself. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ammer, daughters: Michele Turner and fiancée, Todd Bonine, Allison Brown and husband, Kevin Brown, his grandchildren, Austin Ammer and Kamryn Brown.
