Veo Chaney Parker went to be with the Lord on December 13, 2016. She was 88 years, 2 months and 23 days. She was born September 20, 1928 in Nida, Oklahoma to Edward Lee Chaney and Martha Jane Selby Chaney. She was married to the love of her life, Carl Daniel Parker, for 55 years, who preceded her in death in 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Steven Monroe Parker, in 1983; three brothers and four sisters. Veo was survived by her: Son, Daniel Ray Parker and wife Erika, of Kingwood, Texas; Son, Carl Denver Parker and wife Pat, of Yukon, Oklahoman; Daughter, Veo Jane Vaughan of Wichita, Kansas; Grandkids: Steve Parker, Shree Ledford and husband Mark, Curtis Parker and wife Tammy, Danny Parker and wife Sarah, Jennifer Parker, David Parker and girlfriend Candace, Alan Parker and wife Amanda, along with numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and special friend, Nancy Parker. Veo was the rock and matriarch of the family, a title she embraced with honor. Many family gatherings included fishing, camping, sitting by the fire, cooking, storytelling, and especially her homemade biscuits, fried okra, fried potatoes and fried squash. She loved sewing, crocheting and any new crafts that she could bless someone with. Veo's family and friends are blessed to have keepsakes of her personalized gifts, made by hand with love. She reserved a special place in her heart for everyone she met. When Veo met a new person, she introduced herself as "Grandma", welcoming every new friend as family and never allowing anyone to leave feeling like a stranger. Veo lived a life of open arms, beginning at a very young age. Veo left an impression on everyone she met – an impression of compassion and true love that no other can match. So now… You can shed tears that she is gone Or you can smile because she has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back Or you can open your eyes and see all she's left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see her Or you can be full of the love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember her and only that's she's gone Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, Be empty and turn your back Or you can do what she'd want: Smile, open your eyes, love and go on. David Harkins, 1981
