Obituary

Vertice Kinser Turner passed away peacefully at home Monday, December 21, 2015.

She was born January 13, 1928 to Arthur and Ada Mae Kinser in Pineville, Kentucky. Her father owned the first bus line in Kentucky, and when Vertice was about 1 year old her father sold his business and the family moved to Oklahoma City.

Vertice attended Oklahoma City public schools including Whittier Elementary, Taft Junior High, and Classen and Central High School. She attended Central State College which is now UCO.

She was active in the young people's organization at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Oklahoma City. It was there that she met Bob Turner, and they dated for a year before they were married in 1949.

She worked as a bookkeeper for Hobbies Incorporated in Oklahoma City for two years until Bob joined the Air Force. She went with Bob to Missouri where she worked as a secretary for Keylox Company until she and Bob were transferred to Austin, Texas where she worked as a bookkeeper for the Austin Water and Light Department.

Their first child, Debbie, was born at Bergstron Air Force Base in Austin in 1952. They returned to Oklahoma City in 1955 when Bob left the Air Force. Their second child, Robert, was born in 1962, and Vertice became a full time home-maker and mother.

Vertice was a home room mother and Girl Scout leader in her children's schools for many years. She was also a volunteer at Baptist Hospital, and she was active in her church bible school. In her spare time she was an avid tennis player and open country hiker. She was also active in bicycle riding and snow skiing.

Vertice and Bob began attending Church of the Servant in 1988, and they joined the church in 1995. Vertice was part of the church team that mails the Church of the Servant news letter.

Vertice had a special calling to remember in prayer those in need. She had an extensive prayer list, and each night she prayed for each of these people individually, many of whom didn't even know that they were being remembered in prayer.

She is survived by husband Bob Turner, daughter Debbie Sheaffer and husband John, and son Robert L. Turner and wife Mariela, grandchildren Stephen Sheaffer, Mark Sheaffer, Aliza Turner, and Jarod Turner.

A memorial service for Vertice is planned for late January 2016.
