IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Virginia Irene
Chamberlain
June 6, 1925 – April 11, 2025
Irene Chamberlain went to be with the Lord on April 11, 2025. She was born June 6, 1925, in Springfield, Missouri, to O.E. Wayland, Sr., and Lillian Beatrice (Partee) Wayland, grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, graduating from Central High School. In 1941, she married her childhood sweetheart, Gene Chamberlain, just before his Navy deployment in WWII. While awaiting his return in 1945 Irene and her parents relocated to Oklahoma City in 1943. A devoted homemaker, she poured her heart into raising three beautiful children—Tommy, Irenie, and Deanne—always attentive to their needs.
Starting in 1954, Irene worked at J.C. Penney, later building a successful banking career at First National Bank, Grant Square Bank, and Stock Yards Bank, where she retired in 1990 but continued part-time work. In her free time, she loved traveling to Oregon, California to visit her baby sister Betty Jo, and Hawaii, hunting for treasures at garage sales, cooking her famous fried chicken and corndogs, and spending precious moments with her grandchildren.
A woman of deep Christian faith, Irene drew strength from her love for God, living out her beliefs through acts of kindness and generosity. Her faith guided her daily life, shining brightly in her devotion to family and community.
Preceded in death by her parents, siblings Billie Todd, O.E. Wayland, Jr., and Betty Jo Vlay, and daughter Deanne Kinimaka,
Irene is survived by her son Tom Chamberlain, daughter Irenie Chamberlain, grandchildren Cari Cochran (Gary), Victor Halfmoon (Deena), Chris Chamberlin (Kellie), Kim Hay (Wayne), Kiana O'Dell (Paul), Kawika Kinimaka and Keala Kinimaka, along with 21 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren, and a great-great-great grandchild due in June. Irene's loving heart and sweet spirit will forever touch those who knew her.
We feel immensely blessed to have had her as our loving mother and grandma, her warmth and kindness forever cherished in our hearts.
