Virginia 'Sue" Weatherton McGowen, age 92, of Oklahoma City, OK passed away at home on November 26th, 2024. Sue was born in Kinta, Oklahoma to Thomas D Weatherton and Fannie C. Harris Weatherton. She graduated as valedictorian from Kinta High School and attended Conners State College in Warner, OK for her freshman year on an academic scholarship, before leaving school to marry the love of her life, Alvin M. McGowen. She was known for her beautiful smile, kindness and joy of life. Family was held dear. There was never a doubt about her love for Al, the kids, in-laws, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was close with her siblings and to the end spoke with a soft, loving tone when mentioning Thomas, HL or Cora Mae. The McGowens were equally her people. In laws, nephews and nieces always knew they would find a smile, a kind word, maybe a treat and a loving acceptance from Aunt Sue. In her last week of life she was confirming that each of us were okay, knew how much we were loved and how special we were to her. She sang with Al and flashed him that smile he adored the day before she passed. She left nothing unsaid, and neither did her family. She was a woman of faith who believed in a loving God. She felt that actions should reflect faith. Hers did. She was a long-time member of Kinta First Christian Church, Hillcrest Christian Church (where she raised her family, taught Sunday school, cooked mobile meals, and was active in the Christian Woman's Fellowship) and First Christian Church of Moore. She is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, Alvin McGowen, her children and spouses, Dan and Debbie McGowen, Stephen and Connie McGowen and Vicki and John Watson, her grandchildren, Deanna Prufert, Lori and Tim Gourley, Daniel and Diana McGowen, Andrew Bryant, Ryan McGowen, Derrek McGowen and Dustin and Sarah McGowen, as well as great-grandchildren Dylan and Devyn McGowen, Logan, Abigail and Maxwell Prufert, Mason Gourley, Wendy and Patrick McGowen and Grace and Liam McGowen. She also had numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Howard Weatherton, Lawrence Mac Weatherton, H.L. Utley, Thomas Utley and Cora Weatherton Upton Ulrich, Grandchildren Alex and Patrick McGowen, nephews Keith Upton, David Upton, Tom Utley and nieces Nerva Utley Lane and Phyllis Utley Leerstang. We are grateful for the loving, compassionate care she received in home from Drew, Carol, Freda, Sam, Bee, Annette and Fontella as well as the various nurses from Hospice Leann, Kristi, Penny and others and "the bath lady" Jessica, who always made Mom smile and sang with her.
