Obituary

Wanace Eugene Witten departed this world on June 25 2009 just short of his 84th birthday, June 27, 1925. He was born in OKC on N.W. 17th Street. At age 4, the family moved to a farm in Butler, Ok, where at age 9 he became the big brother of Kenneth Joe Witten who preceded him in death. Kenneth always called Wanace his Hero. In 1936, the Wittens moved back to OKC. Wanace attended Taft Jr. High and Old Classen where he played clarinet in the band. At age 15, Wanace was "saved" and dedicated his life to Jesus Christ. When he was a senior in high school he joined the aviation cadets. He always wanted to fly. He attended Pitt University where he was in an intensive study program where he received an associate degree of study in 6 months time. Later in Nashville he was classified as a pilot in a B-25 airplane. He never flew without asking God to be with him. He was on his way to Okinawa as a night pilot when WW II ended.
He came home in 1945 and married the love of his life Laverna May Beeson, whom he met on leave. They were married for 63 years. They had four boys, Larry Eugene, Ronnie Jo, Bobbie D and Gary Wanace. Wanace was a homebuilder for 41 years. He was President of the COHBA in 1982 and President of Oklahoma State Home Builders 1985-1986. He was an honest and great builder. He was a founding member of Crossings Community Church where he envisioned an orchestra for the church while the church was still Belle Isle Community Church. Wanace was preceded in death by sons Gary, Bobbie and Larry, and his parents Oscar and Grace Witten. His mother Grace was like a Saint to all of us. Wanace is survived by his wife Laverna of 63 years, his son Ron and his Grandson Garrett Witten Duty, sophomore at OU and many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 PM, Monday June 29, 2009 at Vondel Smith Mortuary North. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Vondel Smith Mortuary North Colonial Chapel, with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation. Wanace will be missed forever and always in our hearts.
