IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wanda Lou
Johnson
January 11, 1938 – October 17, 2025
Wanda Lou Shropshire Johnson
January 11, 1938 ~ October 17, 2025
Wanda Lou Garrett was born in Greenville, Texas, in 1938. She was the only child of Edna Lee (Wall) and Herbert Henry Garrett. Wanda moved to Oklahoma City with her family when she was in the 7th grade. She attended Moore Public Schools and graduated from Moore High School in 1955.
She and her parents attended Crestline Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, where her father, Herbert Garrett, served as a deacon. Wanda was saved and baptized as a teenager. While attending Crestline Baptist Church, Wanda met and fell in love with Marion Shropshire. Marion and Wanda were married on May 20, 1955, one day after she graduated from high school. They had their first child, a daughter, Diana in 1957, followed by their son, Larry in 1958 and daughter, Donna in 1960. Wanda loved being a wife and mother. She was a stay-at-home mom until her children were in junior high, at which time she began working in the food industry. She and her husband, Marion, enjoyed stock car racing, and spending time at Lake Tenkiller with family and friends.
They begin attending Southwest Baptist Church in 1970 because of an invite from their neighbor, Bernice Stroud. Wanda's husband, Marion, passed away in 1991. During her years as a widow, she enjoyed traveling with the Real People Class, watching Dallas Cowboy and OU football, and was a big fan of OKC Thunder Basketball! She was very involved in her Sunday School. It was during her time in church and attending activities, that she met Curtis Johnson. Curtis and Wanda were married in February 2004. They enjoyed traveling with the Real People Class and Village Tours, along with several of their friends. They also enjoyed their weekly game nights and domino nights with friends. Curtis passed away in 2012. Soon after, Wanda moved to Southwest Mansions Senior Living and later to Meadowlake Retirement Village where she lived until her home going on October 17, 2025.
We would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Meadowlake for the wonderful care and love they showed to Wanda. We would also like to thank all of her friends, Sunday School teachers and members of Southwest Baptist church for making her life joyful! She loved getting cards and visits when she was no longer able to attend church.
