Wayne Kirk Lowery, 72, of Oklahoma City passed from this life on Wednesday, June 28th, at OU Medical Center. He was born and raised in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Robert and Ruth (Detlor) Lowery along with his brothers Charles & Loren and sister, Sherri. Growing up, Wayne's life was all about baseball. He played from a young age and became extremely skilled at first base. Wayne was a homerun hitting machine which helped propel his Legion baseball team, Bartlesville Doenges Ford Injuns, to win the American Legion World Series in 1969. Wayne graduated that same year from Sooner High and went on to attend college at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in Miami, Oklahoma where he also played baseball. Wayne later graduated from Central State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation.
After college, Wayne began working in various capacities at OU Medical Center ranging from driving an ambulance, physical therapy, and as an orthopedic technician. He even worked in the Children's burn unit, which was very difficult, but being able to help children brought Wayne great joy.
Wayne enjoyed many things including, baseball, softball, motorcycles, fixing things around the house, cleaning the dishes at the kitchen sink, and as of late, bicycling. He rode his bicycle as often as possible. Wayne even had a trainer/stationary bike to ride inside the house during inclement weather. He loved to travel with Barbara, the love of his life, to various destinations across the nation. Wayne's all-time favorite place to visit was Lawai Beach in Kauai, Hawaii. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with family either camping, caravanning, coaching little league baseball, and even chauffeuring his father- and mother-in-law on various errands and doctor's appointments.
Laughter was the best medicine to Wayne. He was always quick to make an awkward, if not, borderline/inappropriate joke, which was just his signature move. Wayne was great with children and had a gentle spirit. He will be missed by all, but his kindness and easygoing spirit will be remembered the most.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Robert "Bob" and Ruth Lowery; Wife, Barbara Lowery; Brother, Charles "Chuck" Lowery.
He is survived by his children, grandchildren, siblings, and in-laws: Jason and Melanie Lowery and their children Samuel and Waylon; Michael and Tami Lowery and their children Seth, Mason, Joseph and Caleb; Matthew Lowery; Rob and his wife Jenny Greggs and their children Hannah Greggs and Sarah and Jordan Reddick; Gayle and Neil Lambrecht and their children Mark and Audrey; Lindsay and Josh Gruntmeir and their children Charlie, Taylor, and John; David and Jaci Greggs and their child Abby; Johanna and Jesse Stephens and their child Meadow; Rebecca and Clayton Denton and their children Levi and Nate; Loren and Lori Lowery and their children Douglas Lowery and Jennifer Schwenke; Sherri Lowery; Bruce and Wallacene Cunningham; and Milond and Phyllis Cunningham.
