Obituary

William Calvin Bullard, affectionately known as "Bill" and lovingly called "Papa" by his family, passed away on July 10, 2026, at the age of 83, surrounded by those who loved him most.

Bill was born on September 27, 1942, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to Jesse Bullard and Jean Hamlin. He lived a life defined by unwavering devotion to his family, an unmatched work ethic, and an ornery sense of humor that brought joy to everyone around him. He was a steady source of strength and wisdom, known for his ability to fix just about anything, his beautifully kept yard and thriving vegetable garden, and the unforgettable family lake trips where tubing adventures became treasured memories.

On October 22, 1962, Bill married the love of his life, Wilma. Together they built a life centered on love, hard work, and family, sharing more than six decades of cherished memories.

Bill proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. During his military career, he was stationed at Altus Air Force Base in Altus, Oklahoma, as a security force specialist in the Air Force Police. The discipline, integrity, and quiet strength he developed during his military service remained defining qualities throughout his life.

Following his military career, Bill spent more than 36 years as a truck driver for Transcon Freight Lines. After his retirement, he drove for several other companies including C&A Oil and Gas. He took great pride in his work and was known for his dedication, dependability, and willingness to do whatever was needed.

Above all else, Bill's greatest joy was being "Papa." He spent countless weekends and evenings at the lake catering to his grandchildren, who were the center of his world. He was their biggest supporter—never missing a game, performance, or milestone event. He looked forward to winters spent traveling to Florida to be with his grandchildren there. Papa always made time to help them work on their cars and other projects, and valued quiet moments sharing coffee and conversation as they grew older. No one showered the grandchildren with treats and affection quite like their Papa. He had a unique gift for making every single one of them feel deeply loved. Though he is gone, his enduring legacy of warmth, joy, and gentle wisdom will live on through the family he loved so much.

Bill is survived by his children, William "Little Bill" Bullard of Norman, Oklahoma; Wendi Schovanec of Goldsby, Oklahoma; and Wynne Ann Asbury and her husband, Steven, of Cocoa Beach, Florida. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Andrew, Carl, Reid, Coleman, Graham, Wyatt, and Lily, who will forever treasure the memories they shared with their Papa.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wilma Bullard; his father, Jesse Bullard; and his mother and stepfather, Jean and Walter Hamlin.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Friday, July 17, at 10:00 a.m. at Vondel L. Smith & Son Mortuary at South Lakes, 4000 SW 119th Street, Oklahom
