William E. "Bill" Carroll lived courageously with pancreatic cancer, hoping for more time while maintaining his sense of humor. He peacefully went home to God in the wee hours of March 8, four days shy of turning 80, having shared a March 12 birthday with his eldest daughter Debbie. Bill is survived by Marguerite, his wife of 57 years, and their four children – Chris and wife Beth of Overland Park, KS, Debbie and husband Bruce Williams of Arlington, VA, Craig of Yukon, DeAnna and husband Wayne Rogers of Coppell, TX. He leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. His survivors also include two sisters: Bonnie Haase of OKC and Leveda (Bill) Faulkner of St Paul, MN; one uncle and three aunts, four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law. His many nieces and nephews have stories to tell about "Uncle Bill" and "Daddy Bill" for years to come. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Gabrielle Rogers, and by his parents William and Selena Carroll, with whom he jointly operated Carroll's Tomato House from 1954-1969. A true Oklahoman, Bill grew up on a farm where his hands and labor nourished the earth and where he learned the value of an honest day's work. His integrity and example live on through his family and friends. Bill had a huge appetite for life – and for dessert – often laboring from sunrise until well after sunset. No job was too small or too large, whether it was teaching his children, nieces and nephews to drive, or leaving his Thanksgiving dinner to tackle a parish flooded by broken pipes. Bill operated Lieber Plumbing, Heating and A/C for 35 years, taking over the business from his late father and mother-in-law, Carl M. and Rosemary Lieber. He had many loyal customers and provided plumbing services for the Archbishop's residence in Heritage Hills and most of the Catholic Archdiocese parishes, as well as for Mt. St. Mary's High School. Bill served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954 and was stationed in Okinawa. A man of conviction and faith, Bill was above all, a good man. Never did he raise his voice in anger, choosing instead to express himself by writing letters to his senators and newspapers, many of which were published in The Oklahoman. He and his wife were founding members of St. James Greater Catholic Church, where they've been active parishioners for 56 years. Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus, served on St. James' school board and was a Cub Master while his sons were young. A 7pm wake service Thurs. and Funeral Mass at 11am Friday will both be held at St James Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in OKC.
