William "Alan" Rodgers, also lovingly known as "Bama" to many, joined his Heavenly Father Friday, July 29th, 2022. Alan was born on October 30, 1988 in Fairfield, Alabama to Phillip and Donna Rodgers. He was raised in Bessemer, Alabama alongside his brother, Wayne. Growing up, Alan spent many summers at camp Chula Vista as a camper, counselor, and worked a few summers on staff. Chula Vista is also where he gave his heart to God at an early age. Alan was baptized at Rock Creek Church of God soon after and was a faithful follower of Christ.
Alan attended school in Hueytown, Alabama and he played soccer and football throughout his school years. He also had a deep love for all kinds of music. He began taking piano lessons from his grandmother as a young boy and Alan sang in the school choir and played Baritone in the school band as well. In high school he taught himself how to play bass guitar and he continued throughout his adult life. He graduated from Hueytown High School in 2007. After High School he moved to Oklahoma City to attend Mid America Christian University. He began attending Shartel Church of God during his time at MACU and started playing bass in the church worship band where he was still an active member until his passing. He worked for UPS for many years as a supervisor and for the past 5 years has worked for Dealers Electrical Supply as a driver dealing mainly with shipping and receiving.
In 2013, through his MACU and Shartel friends, Alan met his future wife, Sarah Bollin. They formed a great friendship which slowly but surely blossomed into a romance. They both shared a love for music and served on the church worship team together, further deepening their bond as a couple. The two married on November 19, 2016 at Shartel Church of God and were blessed with a son, Liam in 2019. Alan was a devoted, supportive and loving husband. Becoming a father was one of Alan's greatest joys and he loved his son deeper than anyone can fathom. He would do anything to protect and care for Liam. In the simplest terms, Alan was the best father a boy could ever have.
Alan had a gentle spirit and loved the Lord and serving in the worship band allowed him to express that spiritual connection. He tried to exemplify Christ in his daily life while interacting with co-workers and friends. Anyone that knew Alan was aware of his nerdy tendencies. He was full of random factoids and knowledge about music, movies, board games and most of all, Marvel and Star Wars Trivia. He was a HUGE Alabama sports fan and was often seen sporting some Crimson Tide attire. Alan was quiet, but had a great wit and was tactful with his comedic delivery. When he piped up, it was never without thought and was always worth listening to. His comments, quips and kindness will be missed deeply.
Although Alan left this earth quickly, his memory will remain throughout the lives of his loved ones.
Alan was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents.
