Willie
Goebel
Dec 11, 1966 — Jun 25, 2026
Oklahoma City
Willie passed away on June 25, 2026 in Oklahoma City at the age of 59.
Willie was born on December 11, 1966 in Irvine, California. From a very young age, Willie was very interested in computer technology, networking and video games. He received a Commodore 64 in the early 1980's, and that gift sparked a lifetime career in Information Technology. Willie graduated from University High School, Irvine, CA, in 1985.
Willie began working for Mathis Brothers Furniture in his early twenties. He was not formally trained with computers and did not have a degree in IT, but the Mathis family gave him the tools and training necessary to follow his dream. Willie worked at Mathis for nearly 30 years and made some wonderful friendships and unforgettable memories with his co-workers. Many of Willie’s colleagues were like family, and he appreciated their friendships and kindness.
When Willie was out of the office, he enjoyed listening to music, spending time with his furry friend, Sugar and also learning and tinkering with new tech. Willie absolutely loved building and flying drones as well as other Radio-Controlled gadgets such as cars and rockets. Willie had his own YouTube Channel called, “Willie’s RC Hangout.” He captured hours upon hours of drone and GoPro video footage giving his viewers a unique view of our beautiful city. Always by his side was Sugar, his trusty co-pilot, and second camera operator. Some of Willie’s videos were recorded from Sugar’s POV with a special camera mount for animals. Willie also enjoyed driving his Remote Controlled ARRMA Kraton Speed Truck around the city and posted some amazing footage from the car camera as well.
Willie will always be remembered for his prank Christmas and birthday gifts, along with his unique blend of extreme competence coupled with incredible kindness. He always had the answer and never made anyone feel bad for asking a silly question. Willie will be deeply missed but his memory will live on through the lives he touched.
Willie was preceded in death by his Mother, Donna Bales.
He is survived by his Step-Father, Doug Payette; Step-Brothers, Courtney Clifton and Colin Payette; As well as many dear friends.
