W. Joe Cerney passed away on June 30, 2011 in OKC. He was born in Sioux Falls, SD on April 4, 1928 to Alfred H. and Katherine E. Cerney. He was a loving family man, who often expressed his good fortune to be married to his best friend, Ann Elizabeth, for 63 years.
Joe began playing the saxophone at the age of fourteen and later played in the Classen High Sooner Band as well as other dance bands of the 40's, 50's, and 60's. He also enjoyed traveling, car collecting, and antiquing, which he shared with his wife Ann. Joe enjoyed a 34 year career with Nabisco, where he was best known as "Super Cookie". He is survived by his loving wife, Ann E. Cerney; his two children Ann Berry of Little Rock, AR and Joe Cerney of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren: David, Chris, Annie Beth, Joe, Jeff, Rob, Steven, and Amber; and 16 great grandchildren. We will greatly miss his hugs, kisses, stories, sense of humor, friendship, and love. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, July 3 at Vondel L. Smith & Son Mortuary, 13125 N MacArthur Blvd, OKC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the National Parkinson Foundation.
