Wilma George 93, of Oklahoma City, passed away peacefully on Sept 7, 2022. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Wilma was born in Wewoka, Oklahoma on April 10, 1929, to H.B. and Letha Stephens. She was the fourth of seven children. She graduated from Wewoka High School in 1947 and attended Florida Christian College in Tampa, Florida.
Wilma was a good storyteller and enjoyed telling stories about growing up with a large family during the depression in the small town of Wewoka. She learned at an early age to be a hard worker, which was required in a large family. She started working during HS at J.C. Penney's and held many jobs throughout her life, ending her career as an administrative secretary at FAA. She enjoyed working and found it fulfilling.
Besides her career, Wilma had several interests; she was an avid reader who kept up with world events, sports and politics. She also liked to garden and had an interest in finances and investments. She was an enthusiastic shopper and liked nothing better than a trip to Penn Square. Her family was very important to her and one of her greatest joys was spending time with family. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Oakcrest Church of Christ and attended regularly until her health declined. Her Faith was very important to her, and she instilled this in her children.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, Harrell George; her brothers: H. B., Jack, Curtis, and Shelby and sister, Norma Doyle.
She is survived by her sister Letha Hubbard of Memphis, daughters; Carolyn Gregg (Gary) of Searcy, Arkansas, Carla Snipes (Marshall) of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Rance Gregg (Heather), Heather Ihde (Landon), Sarah Shappley (Taylor), step granddaughter; Ashley Harris (Phillip), step grandson; Marsh Snipes, great grandchildren; Hadley Gregg, Lathan Gregg, Brooks Gregg, Evelyn Shappley, Heidi Shappley, Lydia Shappley, Samuel Harris, Joshiah Harris, Alfred Snipes V and Davi Layne Snipes.
