Yvonne Elaine (Harrison) Carpenter was born June 24, 1944 in Porter, Oklahoma the daughter of Cecil Edward and Marguerite (Marshall) Harrison. She completed this life on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 in Oklahoma City at the age of 80.
Yvonne was raised in the Porter area. After high school she received her education at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri where she graduated with a degree in Music and Elementary Education. While studying at Lincoln University she was initiated into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She remained a faithful alumnae of her sorority.
Yvonne married Thomas James Carpenter on August 23, 1969. They settled in Oklahoma City where they raised their three sons. Yvonne retired from the Oklahoma City Public Schools where she taught 4th grade and music. Her career as an educator was spent teaching at Corpus Christi, Taft and Monroe. During her teaching she was nominated and named "Teacher of the Year". She was involved in church music at Redeemer Episcopal Church and later at the Anglican Church of the Holy Cross. She taught as well as played a number of musical instruments.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, James Thomas Carpenter on November 26, 2020; and her brother, Carver, Harrison.
Yvonne is survived by her sons, Aaron Carpenter and his wife Stacey of Plano, TX,
Dwayne Carpenter and his wife May of Elgin, IL and Edric Carpenter of Oklahoma City;
her grandchildren, Garrick Carpenter, Isaiah Carpenter, Israel Carpenter, Malia Carpenter and Gavin Carpenter; her great grandson, Chrisean Carpenter; as well as numerous former students she had taught.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm on Friday, June 6th at Vondel Smith Mortuary North, 13125 N. MacArthur Blvd. A Holy Requiem Eucharist will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 7th at the Anglican Church of the Holy Cross. Interment will follow in Resurrection Memorial Cemetery.
