Obituary for Sylvia Hicks

Sylvia  Hicks
Sylvia was born on September 13, 1943 to Willie and Leora George. She passed away November 22nd at home. She attended grade school in St. Louis, Oklahoma, junior high in Midland, Texas, and high school in Cement, Oklahoma. After graduation, she was a homemaker and mother. She also was a model and taught modeling. She had a long career as a secretary with Getty Oil and XTO Energy. After retirement, she was a substitute for Oklahoma City Public Schools. She volunteered for many years with the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter because she had an immense love for animals. She was an active member at Westminster Presbyterian Church and cherished her church family dearly. She volunteered for their ministry at the Oklahoma City Rescue Mission. She was preceded in death by her parents and one child, Stephanie Ann Hicks. She is survived by her loving husband, Van Hicks of 53 years; two sons, Van Hicks Jr. and Mark Hicks; her loving sisters, Carolyn Nix, Willa Oliver, Janie Disbury, and Gloria Evans; her special friend Jana Crew; her grandchildren, Jonathan Hicks and Daisy Woods; her daughter-in-law Cary Hicks; and great-grandchildren, Darien, Jakob, Marley, and Dakota. Also, numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends whom she adored. She loved Jesus and by the example of her faith, she had an amazing, positive attitude and loving spirit. She touched all of those who were blessed to know her. There will be a viewing Monday, November 28, 2016 from 4pm to 8pm at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 2pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4400 N Shartel Ave, OKC, OK 73118. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Oklahoma City.
