Wayne Calvin  Smith
Wayne Calvin Smith, Oklahoma City, OK passed away August 19, 2009 at Mercy Hospital. Wayne was born March 19, 1935 in Beaver, OK to Dean and Loraine Smith, they preceded him in death.
Wayne married Suellyn Joyce Canon on August 18, 1984 in Denver, CO. They are the parents of five step-sons; Randi Ray, Dallas, TX, Christopher Ray, Spokane, WA, Stanford Ray, Spokane, WA, Victor Ray, Cusic, WA and Michael Ray, Hawaii. Surviving is a sister, Bonita Harke (Eugene), Tyrone, OK, a niece Diane Edwards and nephew Kelby Harke.
Wayne graduated from Liberal, KS high school and sought higher education at Texas A&M. He graduated in 1958 from University of Oklahoma with a BS in Chemical Engineering. In 1959 Wayne served his country in the Unites States Marine Corps, he was Honorably discharged from active duty as a First Lieutenant in 1962. He returned to OU and obtained his MS in Chemical Engineering. In 1974 he received a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Colorado University.
During his professional career he was a Professional Engineer for Shell Oil, Senior Development Officer at Chemstrand Co. Senior Research Engineer of Petroleum, for Phillips Oil Co, Deputy Chief of Process Control, at Dames & Moore.
In 1993 Wayne moved to Oklahoma City to work for Tetra-Tech, from there he retired.
Wayne and Suellyn are members of Village Baptist Church, Oklahoma City.
According to family, the staff at Mercy Hospital were very professional and went beyond the call of their normal duties to make Wayne as comfortable as possible during his battle with Leukemia.
Funeral services will be held at Vondel L. Smith & Son Mortuary North Colonial Chapel on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 1:00 pm.
