Obituary for Orville Carl Slayton

Orville Carl  Slayton
Orville Carl Slayton, known as Carl by family and friends, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 29, 2016 at the age of 79. The son of Arvel and Lula Mae (Mohr) Slayton, Carl was born April 22, 1937 in Oklahoma City. Carl graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1955, where he earned the All-State status in three sports; football, basketball and track. Because of his accomplishments, Carl was known as "All-State Slate" by many of his classmates. He went on to play football at the University of Oklahoma in 1955, but later transferred to Coffeyville Jr. College where he became an All-American running back in football, helped his team win a National Championship and was voted the game MVP. For his athletic achievements, Carl was inducted into the Sports Hall-of-Fame at both the Coffeyville and Capitol Hill High School. After college, Carl started a career as a firefighter before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1961. After his honorable discharge from the military, Carl continued to serve his community as a firefighter for the Oklahoma City Fire Department and earned an Associate Degree in Fire Technology Engineering. He retired at the rank of Captain in May, 1981. After retirement he successfully owned and operated C&R Complete Lighting until 2001. Carl was a positive influence on hundreds of children in sharing his love of sports by coaching girls’ and boys’ Little League teams. Carl loved the Lord with all of his heart and was a hardworking, gracious and honorable man who was deeply loved by all who knew him.

He is survived by his:
Parents;
Brother, Bobby Jack Slayton;
Son, Michael Carl Slayton.

He leaves behind his loving:
Wife of 45 years, Shirley Slayton;
Daughter, Cindy Johnson and husband, David;
Step-Daughter, Sandra Ziadeh;
Step-Daughter, Cheri Brunsvold and her husband, Gary;
Step-Son, Greg Williams and his wife, Stephanie;
8 Grandchildren: Ashley, Aaron, Andrea, Brooks, Nick, Evan, Jordan and Noah;
5 Great Grandchildren: Faith, Darrien, Amya, Dwan and O'Riah;
Many beloved family and friends.
