Obituary for Jordan Carl Hibbard Jr.

Jordan Carl Hibbard Jr.
Vondel Smith Mortuary at South Lakes

Funeral Service: 1PM Thurs. Jan. 12, 2017
Location: Southern Hills Baptist (8601 S. Penn)

Jordan Carl Hibbard, Jr. would have turned 86 years old on January 16, 2017. He fought a remarkable fight against cancer and received ultimate healing on the morning of January 8, 2017.
Jordan’s love for his family was deep and unconditional. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be sorely missed by his wife Marie; his children and spouses Judith Hibbard, Bruce and Julie Hibbard, Sandra Hibbard, and Elizabeth and Randy Speegle; his grandchildren and spouses Nikki Garland, Melissa and Hamid Rahmanian, Joshua and April Judkins, Sarah Sellers, Zac Speegle and Jacob Speegle; his great grandchildren Christian Garland and Sophie Rahmanian; and his siblings and spouses Dee Elkins, Ron Underwood, Jaynell and Ronnie Songstad, and Darlene and Mervin Walker. And of course, many other family members, his extensive church family, numerous friends, and sweet pups Einstein, Harry Winston and Luna. He is preceded in passing by his grandchildren Joseph Cotton and Melanie Hibbard, father J.C. Hibbard, Sr., mother Lillian Grewie Ash and sister, June Marie Underwood.
Jordan’s great passion for life was contagious, and he lived big - he was a musician, singer, songwriter, artist, author, inventor, historian, student, golfer, mechanic, cook, builder, and genius (just ask him). And of course, he was a preacher. He grew up in Dallas, Texas as the only son of a preacher, Rev. J.C. Hibbard, Sr., and as a young boy he joined sisters June Marie and Dee, and along with their father, they ministered to many thousands of faithful listeners singing and preaching on KSKY Dallas radio every morning before heading off to school. He was active in his father’s ministry until he was called to preach at the tender age of fifteen. As a teenager he evangelized all across Texas until at the age of twenty-three he took his first job as pastor at 4th & Grand in Dallas.
Jordan went on to pastor for three years in Richmond, VA before moving to Oklahoma City in 1960 when he began his fifty seven-year tenure as pastor of Full Gospel Assembly, later named Covenant Fellowship Church. He loved Oklahoma City, and it was here, with his precious Marie by his side, where he spent the remainder of his life upholding his promise to faithfully serve Christ by loving and serving the body of Christ. Throughout his ministry, he and Marie experienced countless struggles, but more often than not – and he would be the first to testify - many countless blessings. The impact of his ministry has touched and changed the lives of so many across the country and around the world. His witness to countless miracles over the span of his life and ministry left him with an unwavering faith in God that would be his legacy. He would not hesitate to declare that his life had been a testament to the un-merited faithfulness, mercy and love of God. Over this past Christmas, and for the last time, his family had the joy of sitting around the piano with him in the living room and singing all together his favorite song, Great is Thy Faithfulness… and as a testament to his life and to his legacy, today we sing,
“Great is thy faithfulness, Oh God my Father, There is no shadow of turning with Thee, Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not, Great is Thy faithfulness Lord unto me”.
Reverend J.C Hibbard, Jr., January 16, 1931 - January 8, 2017
